We are the leading provider of quality vision care products and personalized optometric services in Winston-Salem

Since 1969, the practice of Forsyth Family Eye Care (formerly Old Town Family Eye Care) has been the leader and preferred provider of quality vision care products and personalized optometric services to our patients in Winston-Salem and the surrounding areas. Our experienced doctors and staff offer comprehensive vision examinations and specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide array of eye diseases, conditions, and problems.

The practice was established by Dr. Barry W. Ramsey, in 1969, in the Old Town Shopping Center. By 1993, the practice had outgrown the initial office, so it moved to a larger space within Old Town Shopping Center. In October of 1997, Dr. Alex Appanaitis was invited to join the practice and by 2001, the practice outgrew the existing office again. Adjacent space was acquired and the office was expanded.

In July of 2008, Dr. Appanaitis assumed sole ownership of the practice. Dr. Ramsey continued to practice on a part-time basis until his retirement in November of 2011. Dr. Amy Gurley joined the group on a part-time basis prior to Dr. Ramsey’s retirement and has remained on a full-time schedule since that time.

In February of 2015, due to continued growth, the practice relocated to The Village at Robinhood and was renamed Forsyth Family Eye Care. Click here for directions to the new location.
